EqcoLogic raises funds to commercialize new equalization technologyBRUSSELS, Belgium, 19 September 2005 - EqcoLogic NV, a new company spun out of the University of Brussels (VUB) has raised a first equity investment round from a number of individuals and investment companies in Belgium. Although the amounts raised are not disclosed, the company expects this investment to fund its activities until substantial revenues are achieved. Commenting on the investment, Peter Helfet, Chief Executive of EqcoLogic said "This has been a straightforward and positive process; we have brought in a group of investors who have a lot of relevant experience to offer and we are now able to focus fully on our business development plans." Professor Maarten Kuijk, Chief Technology Officer of EqcoLogic and the lead inventor of the technology within the VUB commented "Of all the developments I have lead in the university, this is the right one to take to market: our timing is good and we are meeting a real market need." EqcoLogic will maintain its close links with the VUB. Professor Roger Vounckx, a director of the company and head of the microelectronics group at the university confirmed "The creation of EqcoLogic sets a fine example for other teams in the VUB and will also help lift the creativity and the commercial aspirations of our researchers." EqcoLogic is bringing a number of products to market, based on the innovative equalizer technology it has licensed from the VUB. The first product, a video equalizer for use in professional film and TV applications, has already been sub-licensed to a major international electronics company. Follow on products will shortly be available for audio, computing and other professional and consumer markets.
