INTRODUCTION

EqcoLogic was formed in June 2005, as a spin-out of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, the Flemish language University in Brussels. The company has an exclusive worldwide exploitation license to technology and know-how relating to signal equalization developed over the past four years by the Micro-Electronics group at the University. This license includes rights to use the material contained in patent applications filed by the University during the development process.

The company became a commercial entity immediately after incorporation thanks to a substantial grant from the Region of Brussels' R&D agency (IWOIB - IRSIB) that funded initial research as well as a survey of business opportunities in the field.

The EqcoLogic technical team members have all come to the company via the University; they are led by Professor Maarten Kuijk, the principle inventor of the technology and now EqcoLogic CTO. Peter Helfet, an experienced Technology entrepreneur, has joined the company coming from the UK to become CEO. Professor Roger Vounckx, head of the Micro-Electronics group at the University is also an active Director.

Shortly after incorporation, EqcoLogic received a capital injection from a number of Belgian investors and immediately moved on to sign its first substantial license agreement; this license commercializes the Equalizer technology for professional video applications.

In September 2005, the EqcoLogic team won first prize for a development project in the prestigious Belgian national "Enterprize" competition.

EqcoLogic is moving forward with a number of new product developments addressing applications throughout the high-speed communications arena.
