USB3.0 is an emerging standard for gigabit speed plug and play devices connected to PCs and other similar computing equipment. USB3.0 cables include two additional twisted pairs for serial digital communications at 5 Gbps. EQCO5000 is a cable equalizer specifically designed to restore signals received using the SuperSpeed mode specified in USB 3.0.
Applications
EQCO5000 supports extended cable lengths for 5.0 Gbps data-rates in general and is in particular useful for USB 3.0 applications, including the following:
- Industrial, Medical High-End Camera's
- Digital Storage
- SuperSpeed display driving
The EQCO5000 is designed to be placed in front of existing SuperSpeed receivers, giving optimal compensation for frequency dependent signal loss in the used cable. For example:
- The top USB connector in a desktop can improve the receive signal integrity by placing the EQCO5000 close to the USB 3.0 connector.

- The EQCO5000 is designed to be integrated into smart cables, only requiring a handful of SMD capacitors.
- The EQCO5000 can generate and receive the USB 3.0 compliant signals, making it suitable to be used in conjunction with FPGAs, in which case the FPGA can play the role of PHY and perform other functions.
Features
- Extended cable reach:
- For standard cable, 15m @ 5.0 Gbps (30-35dB self-adaptive compensation)
- For Superspeed only cable (better AWG), up to 30 m
- Internal input and output termination for low external component count
- Differential signal output can have de-emphasis according to USB3.0 specification
- Transparent for LFPS, 8B/10B and electrical-idle signaling
- Signal equalization for full swing, and low power swing transmit amplitudes
- common mode link-through for transparent Rx detect
- Single 1.2V or 5V supply (by internal linear regulator)
- Low current consumption (55mA @ 1.2V, when active, 8mA in standby)
- Equalizer shutdown when not longer active, auto wake up on LFPS
- QFN16 package, Pb-free and RoHS compliant
- Outputs giving information on the type of data passing (LFPS, 8B/10B, or electrical-idle) for FPGA applications.
